About us
Sanctuary Café & restaurant proudly serves Korean food.
As a little girl living by the sea, gathering seaweed in winter, Oysters and cockles in the Summer, I learnt about food and the value of good quality ingredients. My mum used to sell the seaweed and shellfish I gathered at a harbour-side market she operated to generate enough income to survive and feed 5 children. From an early age, I had to learn how to cook because my father was very ill and had to look after him while my mum brought home food for the table. Also, I remember that whenever there was a big event or wedding in the village, my mum was always at the centre, she was renowned for her cooking for such events. Her food was absolutely
delicious and a great comfort for everyone. Our Café is named Sanctuary, a Place of peace, refuge, comfort and security, we all need a somewhere like that. Whoever visits our Sanctuary should feel at home, comfortable and experience our home cooked food.
My mum had a great passion for cooking and created her own recipes which have been passed on to my sisters and me and in turn I have passed on to my son Sam (Sanggun) who also works with me in the Sanctuary kitchen. I am proud to say that my Son and I have also inherited a passion for cooking and nothing makes us happier than when people enjoy our food. Our food features many of my mum’s recipes as well as some of my son’s and my own recipes.
